La vita a Kikora procede ricca di emozioni e novità; ogni giorno vediamo il nostro progetto allargarsi, crescere e prendere forma…

Kikora children…the group got bigger!
Il gruppo di Kikora si è ingrandito con l’arrivo di altri nove amici, bambini e bambine, che frequentano la scuola elementare di Lporos e ci sono stati segnalati dalle insegnanti come ragazzi in situazioni di estrema vulnerabilità. Da fine luglio si sono uniti a noi durante le attività diurne e hanno portato nuova energia a tutti noi!
Questi ragazzi sono ormai parte della mia vita: il 22 agosto io e Chris ci siamo sposati, qui a Maralal, e abbiamo avuto il privilegio di avere con noi tutto il gruppo al completo! Sono stati i nostri incredibili ospiti d’onore, hanno portato le fedi all’altare e hanno cantato per noi (in Italiano!). Siete fantastici ragazzi!
Per ora le attività di Kikora continuano per tutta la giornata perché le scuole, che dovevano aprire a inizio settembre, sono ancora chiuse per un prolungato sciopero degli insegnanti… Questa situazione ci sta mettendo un po’ in difficoltà per dover provvedere al pranzo (che in genere viene servito a scuola) per 18 ragazzi tutti giorni, ma niente paura… so che in qualche modo insieme ce la faremo!
Devo dire che anche i genitori di questi ragazzi si sono rilevati una fonte di ispirazione per noi! Sono molto grati per quel che Kikora offre ai loro figli e sono desiderosi di lavorare con noi per offrire a questi bambini una vita migliore.
Incontriamo regolarmente i genitori una volta ogni due settimane per discutere i loro problemi e trovare insieme soluzioni. Inoltre ogni giorno, a turno, due genitori vengono a cucinare per i ragazzi alle attività; con il loro aiuto riusciamo ad offrire un menu vario e una dieta bilanciata (invece dei soliti fagioli e mais che mangiano a scuola!) sia ai ragazzi che ai genitori!
Anche per quanto riguarda I nostri veterani abbiamo buone notizie: il centro è vuoto! Dopo Epur, anche Charlie e Thomas sono tornati a casa questa settimana anche se continuano a partecipare alle attivita’ durante il giorno.
Abbiamo ricominciato con le visite in strada per entrare in contatto con altri ragazzi di strada e ci stiamo così preparando ad accogliere un nuovo gruppetto.
Purtroppo non tutte le reintegrazioni fatte fino ad ora sono andate come speravamo e qualcuno si è perso per strada…Non passa giorno che non pensi a loro, chiedendomi dove avremmo potuto fare di più, dove abbiamo sbagliato…ma queste domande rimangono senza risposta. Mi aveva avvertito, chi questo lavoro lo fa da molto tempo, “non puoi aiutare tutti, alcuni non vogliono fare quel passo e tu non puoi costringerli”. Eh già, mi avevano avvertito, ma rimane comunque terribilmente difficile da accettare. Non voglio però perdere la speranza, prego per loro e aspetto, il nostro cancello è sempre aperto…
Nel frattempo, senza perderci di spirito, vogliamo invece rallegrarci per il miracolo di quelle famiglie che sono riuscite a ritrovarsi e vogliamo dare loro supporto perché possano continuare a rimanere uniti.
Voglio ricordarvi un modo semplice e concreto per aiutare questi ragazzi anche da lontano, con un’adozione a distanza (20 euro al mese) potete garantire loro un’istruzione e accesso al cibo …il Natale si avvicina, potrebbe essere un ottimo regalo da fare a qualche amico! Prima di salutarvi, voglio ringraziare di cuore tutti i volontari e amici che sono venuti a trovarci durante quest’estate… Grazie Martina, Alessandra, Nicola, Marta e Matteo; I ragazzi si sono divertiti un mondo con voi e chiedono sempre vostre notizie! In questi giorni abbiamo una nuova volontaria da Maralal, Silvia, una giovane ragazza che vuole mettere un po’ del suo tempo a disposizione dei ragazzi…
Speriamo molti altri vorranno seguire questi valorosi esempi…vi aspettiamo!

The kikora group got bigger with the arrival of 9 new friend, boys and girls from Lporos Primary school, who were introduced to us by their teachers, being children in very vulnerable situations. From the end of July they have joint us for daily activities and they have brought us a lot of new energy!
These children are already part of my life: on the 22nd of august me and Chris got married, here in Maralal, and we had the privilege to have with us the all group! They have been our wonderful guests of honor, they brought the rings to the altar and they have sung for us (in Italian!). Kids, you are just incredibly fantastic!
At the moment the Kikora activities go on the all day because the school, that was supposed to open at the beginning of September, is still closed due to a teacher’s strike….This situation is putting us in some economical struggle because we have to provide lunch (that is usually served at school) for all the 18 children, every day…but we are not afraid…I’m sure that together we will find a way out!
I have to say that also the parents of these new children are a real source of inspiration for us! They are really grateful for what Kikora is doing for their children and they are willing to do their part in order to offer to their children a better future.
We meet with the parents on a bi-weekly base to discuss and share problems and difficulties of life, and to find solutions together. Moreover, every day, on a shift base, some parents come to the centre to cook for the children; with their help we are able to offer a different meal every day and a more balanced diet.
Concerning those children that are with us since a while, we also have good news: the centre is empty! All the Children have moved back home, while they come for activities during the day.
We are now conducting street work during the day and at night, in order to get ready to welcome a new group of children at the centre.
Unluckily of this first group, not all the reintegration processes went as we hoped…some of the children lost their way and no day goes without finding myself wondering what I could have done to help them…But this questions remain without answer. I was told by someone who work in this field since long time, “you can’t help them all; some of them will not want to change and you can’t do anything for them”…Yes, I was told, but it remains extremely difficult to accept. But I don’t want to lose hope, I will wait for them, our door is always open…
In the mean while we have to rejoice for the miracle of those families that have found their way to stay together and we want to hold their hand to give them strength in this journey.
I want to remind you a simple but great way in which you can help these children, with 20 euro per month you can sponsor a child and guarantee to him or her an education and provision for the basic needs… Christmas is coming, this is a perfect gift to donate to a friend! Before saying goodbye I want to spend some words to say thank you to all the volunteers and friends that have stayed with us this summer…Thank you Martina, Alessandra, Nicola, Marta e Matteo; the kids had so much fun and they always ask when are you coming back! In those days another volunteer has joint us, Silvia, a young girl from Maralal who has decided to dedicate some of her free time to the vulnerable children…
We hope that many others will follow these good examples…We are waiting for you!
